THE BEST GOLF RESOURCES TO HELP IMPROVE YOUR GAME PRESENTED BY MASTER PGA PROFESSIONAL LUTHER BLACKLOCK

OnCore Golf Balls

Two years ago, I attended the P.G.A. Show in Orlando, Florida – the biggest in the world. For over 15 years EXPLANAR GOLF have exhibited their Golf & Fitness Training System there.

As I walked the aisles one Booth caught my eye – it was my first encounter with ONCORE GOLF! Over the last 40 years I have seen many breakthrough products – Graphite Shafts, Metalwoods, Launch Monitors and more. From my first meeting with the ONCORE GOLF team I knew they had a Golf Ball to change the industry.

I am proud to be an Ambassador and Stockist for ONCORE GOLF in the U.K. There are currently three types of ball structure in the range – with a fourth, the GENIUS, to be released early in 2018.

ELIXR - This Tri Phase Construction is designed to match and exceed the current market leaders in the golf ball industry. It has everything you would expect from an ONCORE GOLF design – Distance, Soft Feel, Stability and Accuracy. Not only that, the durability is exceptional and “feel” when putting is totally pure.

CALIBER – The CALIBER golf ball is an “Industry First” – with a hollow steel spherical core. The Caliber has its mass distributed peripherally, thus reducing and eliminating any bias that might distort the flight of the ball. Even more dramatically, the perimeter weighting significantly improves the quality of “Roll” when putting.

AVANT – The AVANT golf ball utilises the same “hollow core” technology, in a lower compression ball, to suit a slower swing speed. The feel and sound of the AVANT at impact reveals a ball that has incredible “Short Game” performance. Whilst you might not hit the ball as far as you once could - the AVANT ball will help you be far more effective in the “Short Game Scoring Zone”.

EVOLUTION OF THE GOLF BALL

From “Musket Ball” to spinning “Rifle Bullet”.

Most golfers purchasing golf balls assume they are buying ammunition with the accuracy of a rifle bullet. They might not realise that even market leading golf balls are prone to few degrees of dispersion.

In ballistic terms, there has been an evolution in weapons of war – from musket to modern day rifle. Starting with a crudely made “Musket Ball” that wobbled in flight like a Brazilian Free Kick to an elongated bullet design of today.

Similarly, golf balls during the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s were manufactured with some bias. Tour Pros, in the era of Mr. Hogan, would carry a steel ring in their golf bag to make sure the ball was concentric.

Later, Pros would use a floating solution to test a ball – if there was a bias, the ball would always float and settle with the same dimple pointing vertically upwards. I used this method as a young Assistant Pro in the mid 1970’s. By marking the dimple that always pointed “North” you would then mark your ball on the green and replace it with the spot pointing upwards. Thus, whatever angle of face path impacted the ball, the bias would be “end over end” and work to your advantage – the results were noticeable.

FROM “HEEL & TOE” WEIGHTED CLUBS TO “PERIPHERRALY WEIGHTED GOLF BALLS.
